Building for the Cultural Heritage Centre of Gipuzkoa.

Use: Industrial/cultural

Location: Auzolan street 4. Irún.

Surface area: 9.100 m2

Developer: Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa.

Order resulting after obtaining first prize in an ideas competition.

A large structure, in the style of a "metallic cage" covers the building, reminiscent of a safe. The "box of Guipuzcoa's treasures", which contains those archaeological, ethnographic and artistic pieces which aren't on display in museums.

The facades, made from concrete "in situ" in the lower skirting board, and from pre-manufactured striated panels in the upper section, open up spaces to the exterior in the area reserved for the offices and the vestibule, an exterior patio which provides the entry point for visitors. The resulting design is one of significant robustness and plasticity.

The use of alternative energy sources (geothermal energy, photovoltaic panels), coupled with The Maximum Qualification in Energy Efficiency (grade A) make the building a benchmark of energy sustainability.
